PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The goal of this specialty is to cultivate the advanced nursing talents who develop themselves in an all-around way of morality, intelligence, physique and art; master the basic theories, knowledge and skills of biological and clinic medicine and nursing; possess broad knowledge of humanities social sciences and proper professional ethics and social responsibility; own the ability of analysis and treatment of health problems of patients, and ability of nurse management, education and research. Have the spirit of innovation and business establishment, the ability of international communication and development potential, and become the advanced talents of clinic and society nursing in medical and health organization of different kinds and levels.

PROGRAMREQUIREMENTS

The requirements of the program include:

A. The ideological and moral education and professional quality

1. Establish the proper life value system and views of world, possess the spirit of humanism and the ability of social adaptability.

2. Love nursing career; Have the sense of responsibility for the development of Nursing and the professional spirit of public health services; Form the proper professional values.

3. Cherish lives and respect others. Possess the spirit of team-work and the sense of interdisciplinary cooperation.

4. Comply with medical care rules; Own the awareness of protect the patients and their own rights with laws.

5. Possess the spirit of critical rethinking, the scientific attitude of seeking truth from facts.

6. Establish the concept of lifelong study and certain ability of innovation.

7. Form the concept of cost-effectiveness initially; Use health resources rationally.

B. The professional knowledge

1. Be familiar with the basic principles, policies and regulations of national health work.

2. Master the basic knowledge and scientific methods of nursing-related sciences, such as Nature Science, Humanities and Social Sciences.

3. Understand the normal structures, functions and psychological states and their developmental changes.

4. Ascertain the influence of various factors of biology, psychology and society on health and disease.

5. Possess the basic theories and knowledge, and the development trends of nursing.

6. Understand the basic psychological needs of different patients; Evaluate and intervene common clinical psychological problems individually.

7. Master the knowledge of Pharmacology and the principles of clinical medication and drug administration.

8. Master the relevant knowledge of common and frequently-occurring diseases and clinic emergency case and serious illness.

9. Understand the basic principles of Chinese traditional medicine; Perform dialectical nursing with the basic ideals of Traditional Chinese Medicine Nursing.

10. Perform different health education, disease prevention, rehabilitation and hospice care on different populations.

C. The technical ability

1. Possess the ability of effective communication and cooperation with the patients and relevant professional staffs.

2. Possess the ability of implementing holistic nursing to different patients using nursing process.

3. Possess the ability of providing high quality nursing service for the patients using Basic Nursing Techniques, Emergency Nursing Techniques, Basic Nursing Skills and Commonly Used Diagnostic Techniques.

4. Possess the ability of effective observing and treating the common and recurring diseases.

5. Possess the ability of co-resuscitating the emergency cases and severe illness, and first-aid treatment of public health emergencies.

6. Participate community health care; Have the basic ability of providing health education, guiding and consulting for individuals, families and societies; Provide nursing service that is in accordance with their culture for individuals, families and societies.

7. Ensure safe and effective professional practice through critical thinking and clinical decision.

8. Possess the basic skill of obtaining, assessing and using nursing information through modern information technology.

9. Possess the ability of reading English professional references and communicating orally and formally.

10. Possess the initial ability of clinical teaching and scientific research.

11. Possess the basic ability of self-study and self-developing; Have the ability of adapting to the changing needs of social health care.

YEARS OF STUDY, DEGREEGRANTING ANDGRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Four years with a Bachelor’sdegree in Science.

Minimum credit requirements: 160 credits for in-classlearning, and 8 credits for extracurricularactivities.

In addition, the students are required to complete the military training, pass the national CET-4 exam, and meet the National Standard for College Students’ Physique Health before graduation.

BASICCOURSES FOR THE PRIMARY DISCIPLINE

Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathophysiology, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Pharmacology, Human Functional Experiment, Introduction of Nursing (including Evidence-based nursing), Nursing Humanities (including interpersonal communication, nursing ethics, nursing aesthetics), Basic nursing (including clinical nutrition and hospitalpice), Health assessment, Nursing education, etc.

PROFESSIONAL CORE COURSE

Medical Nursing, Surgical Nursing, Obstetric and gynecological Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Emergency and Intensive Nursing, Geriatric Nursing, Mental Health and Psychological Nursing, Community and Rehabilitation Nursing, Tradition Chinese Medicine Nursing, Nursing Research,Nursing Management etc.

PRACTICE TRAINING

The Practice Training includes: military training, summer session practice, professional basic skill training, students overseas exchange and practice (summer session). The specific requirements are in “course selection requirements”.

COURSE SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

1. The explanations about course module settings

Teaching courses have three modules including General Educational Courses, Major Platform Courses and ProfessionalCourses.

General Educational Courses include GeneralCourses (24 credits) (13 credits for Ideological and Political Theory Course, 1 for Military Theory, 8 for College English and 2 for Physical Education), General Core Courses and General Optional Courses, 6 credits respectively.

Major Platform Courses and ProfessionalCourses modules will set up the compulsory and optional courses according to the professional characteristics.

2. The requirements of all the module optional courses

The medical students are required to study 6 credit general core courses in four categories: natural sciences and technology, world civilization, society and art, and cultural heritage (the same course module shall not be selected repeatedly).

General Optional Courses: medical students can select any 6 credits’ courses. Course category is not limited.

Classified teaching is performed in English, including 4 credits’ English compulsory courses and 4 credits’ expanded optional courses. The students must attend Intensive English Summer Camp in the summer session of the first year, which is compulsory. Public English Courses include Theoretical Course, Practical Course and Self Study. The students can obtain the corresponding credits after they select all the Public English Courses and complete the relevant teaching requirements. The students must select Public Speaking Course before they select English Debating Course.

Physical Education is compulsory course in 1 to 4 semesters. Physical specialized course in 5 to 8 semesters has no credits. Physical specialized course is limited selection in the 5th and 6th semesters, and is optional in the 7th and 8th semesters.

Optional Courses in the Major Platform Courses and ProfessionalCourses modules has the least credits requirements, and the students can select more course.

3. The explanations and requirements about comprehensive practice

The comprehensive practice in this specialty includes Clinic Nursing Practice and Community Nursing Practice, etc. The 19-credit Clinic Nursing Practice will be completed in 38 weeks, and the Community Nursing Practice, 2 week and 2 credits. Clinic Nursing Practice requires students complete the nursing teaching practice and graduation project during the clinic nursing practice. The dissertation requires students complete all the topic selection, documents query, data collection and analysis, and defense (dissertation must be written according the Nursing graduate design format, More than 5000 words). Students shall graduate when they qualify through oral defense of the dissertation.

4. The specific requirements of extracurricular 8credits are performed according to the relevant documents of the Students' Affairs Division.
