Founded in 2009 by Profs. E. Ma, Zhi-Wei Shan and Ju Li, The Center for Advancing Materials Performance from the Nanoscale (CAMP-Nano) is endowed with cutting-edge instruments, and powered by fun-loving and exploratory spirits, which make campers a creative and happy team, an envied home. Campers strive to be pioneers at the frontiers of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Having enjoyed the camp life here, campers will become leaders in academia, industry or business. Until now CAMP-Nano has attracted 16 outstanding young talents for full-time faculty positions. All of them have great overseas research credentials and seven of them have also been honored with national high-level talents.
CAMP-Nano has acquired and developed first-class instruments valued about 10,000,000 US dollars, most of which were the first of their kind in China or even in Asia and the world. To keep the advanced facilities at their best performance and ensure all students to receive systematic training, CAMP-Nano has appointed nine high-level technicians and two administrative secretaries. Using the methods of world advanced in-situ testing, quantification and the skills of computer simulation and theoretical calculation, CAMP-Nano has published over 370 papers in prestigious peer-reviewed journals such as Nature (2), Science (6), Nature Materials (5), Nano Letters (15), Advanced Materials (3), Nature Communications (17), PNAS (3), PRL (3) etc.
To accelerate the translation of basic scientific knowledge into industrial applications, CAMP-Nano has also been cooperating with many other research groups and companies all over the world. Hysitron Applied Research Center in China (HARCC) and XJTU-HHT Research and Development Center (XHRDC) are the collaborative bases with Hysitron and Hitachi High-Technologies, respectively. XJTU-NIN-HHT Research and Development Center was established on April 8th, 2022, with Northwest Institute For Non-ferrous Metal Research and Hitachi High-Technologies Corporation. Aiming to develop high-purity magnesium preparation technologies and explore the applications of high-quality magnesium alloys, to develop new corrosion protection technologies for magnesium alloys, Shaanxi Province Magnesium-based New Material Engineering Research Center has been established in 2015. From 2013, we also focus on developing novel materials and devices for energy storage and conversion, by collaborating with State Grid and Global Energy Interconnection Research Institute. To address the material challenge from nuclear power industry, we extend the research efforts to study the performance and environmental degradation of nuclear structure material from 2018. In 2022, Xi 'an Jiaotong University-Fugu County Co-built Shaanxi Province Magnesium Based New Materials Engineering Research Center and Xi 'an Jiaotong University-Northwest Institute For Non-ferrous Metal Research-Hitachi Joint Research and Development Center were established. In 2023, Shaanxi Province Magnesium based New Materials Pilot Base (Science and Technology Department), Xi'an Jiaotong University Undergraduate Practical Education Base, and Metal Magnesium Experimental Training Base was established.
