Key Laboratory of Education Ministry for Modern Design and Rotor-Bearing System

The key laboratory of education ministry for modern design and rotor-bearing system was approved to be established in 1999 in Xi’an Jiaotong University. It grew out of the research group founded in 1958 and started to cultivate graduate students in 1963, followed by the set-up of the mechanics doctoral discipline in 1984. The lab was supported by the State Education Commission in 1994, and approved by the State in 1999, as well as the following evaluations by the education ministry in 2002, 2007 and 2012. The lab includes 47 fixed research members and owns a building space of 3000 square meters. It is engaged in the research of science and engineering of design, design big data and condition monitoring, engineering tribology and rotor-bearing system dynamics. The laboratory is aimed at the country's major needs, with design science as the theoretical guidance, to meet the national key equipment bearing-rotor system and other core basic components design needs as the goal, to carry out cutting-edge basic theory and applied technology research, forming a leading edge of the international theory and method for design, to create a characteristic base for cultivating high-level talents. Now, Prof. Jun Hong holds the position of director of the lab, and the head of academic committee is Prof. Jianbin Luo, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

During 2013 - 2017, the total amount of funds for the laboratory project was 126.49 million yuan, the vertical cost was 78.83 million yuan, the horizontal funding was 47.66 million yuan, and the per capita funding was 2,874,800 yuan/person. Among them, there are three 973 projects, 6 national major projects, and two 863 projects. The research results won 3 second prizes for national technology inventions, 6 first prizes for provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological progress, and 4 second prizes.the lab has published 372 papers on domestic and international magazines, 212 of which were cited by SCI, and four monographs. There have been six post doctors, 34 doctors and 201 masters graduated from the lab. The laboratory actively conducts academic communite activities, hosting international and domestic academic conferences such as the 10th International Conference on Axiomatic, the 13th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots and Ambient Intelligence, 2016 Chinese Youth Tribology Academic Conference, 2016 Internet Age Oil Monitoring Technology Seminar, the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Engineering Testing Technology Research Association of National University Machinery and the 2013 Tribology and Modern Design Forum; the laboratory invited more than 50 well-known demostic and international scholars to visit to exchange and give lectures, and laboratory members and graduate students have participated in the international conferences and give reports for more than 100 times.

The research results of the laboratory in recent years have played a vital role in promoting international academic frontiers, promoting national economic development, safeguarding national security and strengthening national defense construction, making the laboratory an important base for the development of design science and bearing rotor systems in China.
