Welcome to Laboratory Animal Center

Laboratory Animal Center (LAC) of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) is a public service platform supported by the First Affiliated Hospital, the Second Affiliated Hospital and the Affiliated Hospital of Stomatology. LAC consists of two places, which are located in the Yanta Campus and the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbor (iHarbour), respectively.

Public services: The animal facility of LAC in the Yanta Campus (4,500 square meters) mainly serves for teaching laboratory animals practice of medical students. LAC in iHarbour (18,600 square meters) provides an advanced research platform for animal studies. LAC has international standard facilities for animal husbandry & housing, digital subtraction angiography operating room, and micromanipulation platforms. LAC is also equipped with advanced instruments and multi-modal imaging equipment for various laboratory animals including mice, rats, dogs, pigs, goats, sheep, non-human primates, and zebrafish. LAC is designed to realize the centralized care and administration of all the laboratory animals in XJTU, ensuring that the entire animal studies can be completed within LAC.

Teaching works: There are four professors (PIs of the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, Translational Medicine Institute; Department of Laboratory Animal Science, School of Basic Medicine), three associate professors, and six technicians in our team. We are responsible for educating and training students on Medical Laboratory Animal Science. We have published six textbooks, such as "Medical Laboratory Animal Science", "Animal Models of Human Diseases", and "Fundamentals of Laboratory Animal Science".

Research works: We focus on the generation of animal models for human cardiovascular and skeletal diseases. Research achievements have been made in the field of atherosclerosis/aneurysm, fatty liver, rare bone diseases, embryonic development. Our research works were supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (16 projects) and provincial grants (28 projects). We published more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed journals, such as Cell Metab, Circulation, Am J Hum Genet, and Nat Commun.
